I have tried two mail order labs recently. One is a bulk processor, one advertises in the UK photography magazines claiming to offer a better service. The problem I have had with both these laps is that when I get my 6 x 4 35 mm prints back, there always seems to be a difference between the image area on the negative and the image area on the print. The print tends to cut off a border around outside, sometimes more from one-sided and the other of the top than the bottom. Is this to be expected or is this just sloppy work?
Thanks for your help.

Your getting a machine print, this will always crop some of your neg out, take it to a lab and explain/tell them what you need. If you cant/dont print yourself you'll have to start cropping in camera as you shoot.
