365 Project? No way. But...

Personally I would get off the taking pictures mentality. Instead I would work on the creative aspect.
Maybe get up early and go out before sunrise and watch the lighting change in your neighborhood as the sun rises. Then do the same at sundown. Maybe even leave the camera home for this.
Then go out at the same times and see if you can find worthy subjects to shoot under the changing light. Take some photo's of each subject at different times of day and compare the lighting.
This approach will get you a lot further than forcing yourself to take photo's. A picture a day makes me want to sell the camera.
Just my opinion.

Thanks, Rick. There's definitely a lot of value in that, and I take those opportunities when I can. This is more about making me think in different ways, and I think the guidance from the prompts will get me to take photos I wouldn't have attempted otherwise. I'll show a quick example from my last project that I love...without the prompt "shoes" I would never have attempted this shot.

I’d do a 52 week challenge with you. Can’t guarantee I’ll make it all the way through or that the photos will be anything special.. but I’ll give it a go!

Nice! I don't think they have to be anything special, and I can't wait to see what you figure out with your drone!

Just a suggestion - You could start a thread for this in one of the Gallery forums. Put the link to the petapixel site in the lead post and have everyone post their challenge photos in it. Each week you could update the title of the thread to state the week # of the challenge and/or the theme. That may be easier than a new thread every week which I have to say is a bit of a pita. I'll probably be in as much as I can. New Year's resolution - get out of my comfort zone and post more photos for critique.

Great! I'll think about how to set it up, and maybe I'll make a more official "planning" thread to see if we can find some prompt ideas. I've done some cursory google searching...the petapixel one was just the first one to show up, but there are others. I like the idea of categories -- portraits, technical, creative, landscapes, etc.

Shoot the alphabet - more thought goes into it.

That's a great idea too, but I think I like the technical parts of some of the challenge prompts.

I’m definitely interested. I had every intention of doing a 52 week project last year, but the one that the photo blogs were talking about last year had too many oddball themes and I lost momentum. I like the idea of the alphabet...

Great! I'd love to see what you come up with.

I'm in @JonA_CT. I did one this year and it was easy. I didn't feel any pressure but had some health challenges so I wasn't spot on. People with kids, all bets are off as they come first. I remember having to juggle my art, work, and family, very difficult to make everyone happy.

I think for a lot of people on here have been shooting a long time as opposed to me, so feeling the desire may have less an impact. I am trying to catch up or expedite the learning curve was my reasoning.

Winter poses challenges but if you think about it, there are ways around that. I made my 2016 resolution to shoot more film to enable me to get better at in camera images, that require minimal or no post work. I feel that I accomplished my goal.

My 2017 goal is once again a dual purpose goal. Darkroom studies. I will expand my knowledge on developing film in order to properly visualize how I look at light prior to pressing the shutter. I will obtain an enlarger that will make 135, and 120 so I can make my own prints to build a physical portfolio that enables better skill evaluation. The other goal is to execute more natural light portraits and to incorporate more people in my street shooting.

Thanks, JC. I know you'll knock all of whatever prompts we come up with out of the park. I can't wait.

Whew, just reading JC's post wore me out! There could be a Gary challenge - take a picture once in awhile, whenever you feel like it, or don't bother to get up out of your lazy chair... unless it's to toss another tri tip on the grill!
Sorry, I'm a salesman and can get long winded on occasion. Too much? It took me a minute to voice to text it in. Lol

No, it made me tired thinking about doing all that! lol building a portfolio, etc. Boy, I need a glass of wine thinking about it. But then I know darkroom stuff. After I took a workshop at a local college I lived in the darkroom and turned into a real darkroom rat. So I hope you have fun with it!

One film a month with a theme that connects the frames would be good for me.

@JonA_CT If you decide putting together your own challenge is too much work, here is the Facebook group for the Dogwood challenge: Log into Facebook | Facebook

I think I'll join that group on Facebook...petapixel rehashed those prompts anyways. New thread coming soon.

I think this is a great idea too, Fred. Any theme suggestions? I can start that thread in the Film forum.

I don't develop my own, so the schedule will be a little wonky for me, but 36 frames a month is a great goal (for me anyways). I have a roll of Tri-X waiting for my camera.

I’m in for the Dogwood challenge and also doing a monthly project with some of my “mirrorless mama” friends where we are using a different cooor every month and posting a collage of 9 photos each month. Hopefully have not bitten off more than I can chew.

I’ll look for you on the Petapixel/ Dogwood page! If we get a few more from TPF to join we can start a thread to discuss the weekly themes.

Check out the “Grace Project”. I’ll post the link later when I’m at my laptop.
