Photos NOT OK to edit
Hi everyone here are some photos from today. I will reply this post to ask a few questions of the pros, but first here are the shots, c&c welcome. They were taken in Bristol County of Massachusetts. Happy 4th everyone!

This picture is of a girl having a quick snack while watching the parade. Her father was giving me a stare so I edited him out of the picture (don't you hate it when people do that... actually come to think of it some of the Paraders(!) gave me that look, I mean they are on a freakin' parade!).

The next few are your typical parade fare so I will refrain from making useless comments:

Okay I have no idea what happened with those links, sorry guys. You can stil click the links above to get the photos on a new page. Click the second not the first link cos the first link gives a small image, the second gives the big one. If anyone knows what I am doing wrong pls help :)

Secondly, as for the advice I need, today I had to struggle to get a handful of clean sharp images out of nealy 500. Many of the pics you see above are less sharp than they look, and are blurry at 100%. I had plenty of diffuse light, it was cloudy but many of my pics were shot at 1/1000 and all were 1/500 and faster. I have a rebel xti and canon f/4L 70-200 and I shoot wide open, with AI-focus (midway between AI-servo and Single focus) and single shot. Handheld, using good handholding technique, fill flash using 430ex in high speed sync. This is supposed to be the sharpest glass in the canon arsenal so I must be doing something wrong (or is it the xti?). I won't get started on exposure problems, anyway I correct them in photoshop. I can't tell the difference between a shot being out of focus and motion blur, usually if a shot I do is out of focus its bec it is moving anyway. I don't think I've ever taken a sharp shot of anything moving actually! I half press the shutter before each shot, actually could that be the problem? I hope its not bec I am causing focus locking and the the target moves! But it shouldn't be a problem right, bec half pressing is supposed to be how you get the perfect shot by prefocusing (and ppl don't really move THAT fast)? So maybe its motion blur but I had plenty of light and a high shutter speed! Anyway exif is intact and I'd love some help I am at wits end. I do not have this problem with my 12-24 tokina but perhaps that is to be expected.

I'll repeat for emphasis tho: if the thing I am shooting is moving at all, it will be blurry, and it doesn't seem to matter what shutter speed I have, even if its 1/2000, its going to be blurry. I have no idea why. This more than anything fustrates me esp on a parade when everyone is moving! However in today's shooting, even still people came out blurry most of the time.
