4x5 View Camera, Focusing Loupe, Do i need one?

    As Gary mentioned a camera lens can provide a suitable alternative, if you don't have a dedicated loupe.
    I'll probably use my microfiche lens for it next time I get the 5x4 out - though magnification might be bit excessive :)

    I regularly used a 4x loupe for the ground glass back. It was indispensable for focusing, and eliminating errors; and if you use tilts and swings, its critical.

    Amen to difficulties with LF lenses. They are dark, even using a focusing hood. I still have my cloth focusing hood, and use it when lighting conditions are harsh. I still shoot MF and it's very handy. You may want to consider one of those.

    You might as well resign yourself to buying one. Even if you feel you don't need it now, trust me: sooner or later, Mother Nature will force you to get one.

    Resistance is futile.
