I've never tried to take "event" pictures, so if you have tips, I'd appreciate them, even though I wasn't really trying to do anything spectacular here. Thanks!

I didn't really know what kind of pictures to take at something like that, so I was just playing around. I have tons of other "good" ones but they look really snap-shotty.

They're good! I like 4 and 5 best as they're lit very well, and have a feeling of capturing the moment without being snap-shotty (love that word hah).

Just a little critique (opinion) about the food shot. These kinds of shots at events are good, I think, as the food was obviously part of the event and might be something people want to remember in the future. The DoF in this shot is just way too shallow. The food doesn't look appetizing (as I'm sure it was), it just looks like a blur. I can't even tell what it was that you ate! :D More depth of field would have been better. I love the light in the shot though, and I think the composition is good.

thanks! I also love 4&5. I don't know what it was about them that made them appeal to me, and I didn't know if it would be the same for anyone else, but I am glad to hear that it's not just me!

Also, I gave the camera to my dad and of course he took a picture of HIS food.

(I put it on automatic before handing it to him... that's why it looks WAY different as far as color etc.)

that seared tuna looks so good.
