A decent EF telephoto lens for under $300?

I have a bidget of $300, and need to find a decent telephoto for my EOS 20D. It is mainly going to be used to take pictures of wildlife from a couple hundred feet.

Any suggestions? (remember I am a newbie, and dont really need a really expesnive lens at this time.)

I have heard that Tamron makes some decent cheap lenses.

The Canon 75-300 F4-5.6 should be under $300. Check out both Sigma & Tamron.
