...in a vase. I've done a few of these still life shots. This time I've tried for a homely look (straggly or unkempt if you prefer :wink:) with deep shadows.

I remember seeing that vase and that background before. I liked it then, and I like it now. Beautiful shot, it looks really natural.

I started doing still life shots of this type a year or so ago. This kind of stuff can be seen as straightforward and pretty undemanding, lacking the "Wow" factor that appeals to amateurs. However, the degree of control you have over both the subject and the elements of photography is very great, and make it more demanding than many genres of photography. This is something, with reference to painting, that artists have long realised. I haven't yet achieved what I want to in this area, but I think I'm improving :).
