I want to start shooting true macro and I wonder if anyone could recommend a good all around Nikon lens that I could really get some great close shots with?

The Tamron 90mm 2.8 and the Sigma 105mm 2.8 if your on a budget

The Nikkor 105mm 2.8 VR if you want to impress your friends

If macro is just a fun thing for you consider grabbing a used one (3rd party) for around $300

I agree with everything he said, just another thing to add. The Sigma 150 macro is pretty good too and gives you more working distance than the previous two. I have a Sigma 105 and I love it, it's very sharp. I've also heard really great things about the Tamron.
