This isn't the first shot I've taken of a heron catching a fish, but the first one I've caught where the fish wasn't just caught between the beak, but rather "stabbed" by the bottom beak. Pretty gruesome, but an awesome sight to behold. It's hard to see here, so I'll include a link to a 100% crop. I took about 5 photos in sequence, in which you can see the blood dripping from the fish. Heron's are fierce hunters.

Whew! That would have been hard for me to keep the presence of mind to keep shooting. Good job!

Cool capture! And nice colors. (That's a pretty big fish it caught. Any shots of the heron trying to choke it down?)
 
Thanks everyone. Yeah, the twig is unfortunate, but you can't move around too much when these guys are in the middle of hunting.
