I am on the cusp of buying a new Olympus SP-590UZ.
The Olympus web site says there are no filter threads on this lens. However, there are after-market adapters available for filters.
I suppose this means using a invisible lens cap (UV filter) is ruled out.
Also, does this mean that, if using the adapter, the shades cannot be used? That would be bad news for me as I am a huge believer that good shades are critical to sharp photos.
I'm mainly interested in being able to use a circular pola filter but also want to use a shade at same time.
Anybody have experience with this? The web site descriptions are not very helpful.

The only adaptor I see for that point and shoot is the tube for attaching the teleconvertor. It has 55mm female threads, but it says that they are propietary. That throws a red flag that "traditional" filter threads may not be the same. Have you seen this before though? http://cgi.ebay.com/Filter-Set-UV-C...temQQimsxZ20090921?IMSfp=TL090921169004r25402
