No it's from the camera and the noise reduction on the grey image was that good

The filter is called film grain in photoshop. It has limited appeal but in this case it had the benefit of being able to blow out the highlights of the image which after reducing the brightness and lowering the contrast further added to the ... bleakness.

I think this one conveys sadness! Her, sitting by herself restricted to the corner, looking out at people together just gives that mood!
