An Old, Nostalgic Look On An FJ40....

UGGGGG I just can't get away from cruisers even here. Ah well I guess it's just my lot in life. I like the third one the best, but the 4th I both love and hate.

Now about those Jeep comments - Cruisers were build BEFORE Jeeps so the Jeeps look like them, and they are a far cry from one another. My husband was driving a 1 ton cruiser pickup when we first met and our best friends sell and restore cruisers.

AHHH...!!! What has this thread turned into! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Thanks for the great comments...and a few good laughs.

Yeah...I know how it is. Even my MOTHER calls it the Jeep. I have given up on correcting her and now just acknowledge her.

Anyway...I don't know if any of you have seen family guy, but a few of my friends watch it...(for what reason, it's beyond me)...They asked me if they could stage a scene from one of the episodes...

You all may get a good laugh out of this...

First watch the video and then look at the pictures...

with your permission, I'd like to use one of your photos as part of the IH8MUD.com cover rotation, the gallery is located at http://www.ih8mud.com/featured.php

working (slowly) at collecting images that are "professional" quality, and deleting the hack ones (mostly mine...lol)

??? - From Toyota's website...

"Fortunately, in January 1951, the tide turned for Toyota when the freshly-formed 'Japanese National Police Reserve Forces' asked Toyota engineers to produce an alternative to the American 4x4 Willys Jeep. The first prototype - the Toyota Jeep BJ - failed to impress, but its designers did not give up, and made a large number of technical improvements. ... In 1954 the Toyota Jeep BJ was renamed "Land Cruiser" after the Willys Company claimed their trademark had been violated. A legend was finally born!"

History on both from their manufacturers...

Cesium - hope i'm not hijacking your thread with my research, i thought it was interesting on both sides. any 4x4 that gets used is okay in my book! Love your photos, hope to see more! :D

Ooops, I stand corrected. Thank you for correction my mistake.

A small history on the FJ40...

Back in the 1950's the American Army contacted the Toyota Motor Corporation with a request for a 4WD vehicle to be used by the soldiers and military police stationed in Japan. Toyota took the request seriously. The result: the Land Cruiser, a literally bulletproof vehicle. Down to earth yet with spirited attitude, capable of enlivening the life you're living and the conversation you're having. All FJ40 Land Cruisers are two door four-wheel drive trucks with removable hard top, doors and fold down windshield frame allowing for "open-air" driving.
