Will a lens for a Canon XS be compatible with a Canon XTi?

I have read around on about 10 different sites so far and can't find an answer I feel like a failure lol

Yes. Both cameras accept EF or EF-S mount lenses.

so does that mean that if I am buying a lens, it has to say EF or EF-S in the name of the lens?

I am looking at a Tamron AF 18-200mm lens... But it says AF, not EF, but it also says it is for Canon DSLR's... Would that fit either of the bodies? (I feel like such an idiot) :/

BTW: I did just read through the manual that came with the XS and it doesn't say anything about what to look for in buying new lenses...

If you are looking at newer lenses from Tokina, Sigma, or Tamron; then yes, if it says for Canon, it will fit.
