Another Newbie

Hi folks, I have had a camera in my hand since I was 8 and I still love photography but I never learned anything about photography. I recently purchased a Nikon D40 and want to learn how to use all the settings and have read my manual but nothing makes sense.. like white balance I had never heard of that until I got this camera, and an f stop what the heck I just learned how to adjust it but I don't know how to use it. Lens are measured by the mm what does all that mean, what does wide angle lens do?? AHHH I am so confused and want to learn it ALL yesterday

BUT I have taken some pictures with it and I am teaching myself photoshop. Here is one example of one of my pictures. Thanks for listening.
