I have a question. I have been getting to know my camera and learning about things such as apreture and fstop. Now when ever i see examples of f-stops Although we see 1.8 and 3.5 in lense f-stops, you dont see it on any apreture example and calculators.

does anyone know why this is. Are these no diff than what is above or below what is actually show. Please advise if these make a diff in range of light.

    Thnx

I would love to help you but I honestly don't understand what you are asking.

I've seen 1.8 and 3.5 referred to in aperture examples before.

I would try and help too, but I don't understand what you're asking at all, sorry. You don't need a calculator.

I think I know what he means.

On lenses, it says something like aperture f/3.5-5.6G

But on a DSLR camera, it says things like f/3.5 at the widest, and f/32 at the tightest.

I don't know why this is either.

I am quite certain this is not what he asked. But you question is rather easy to answer:

Printed on the lens you only find the widest aperture / smallest f-stop, since that is usually the limitation. Zoom lenses often do not have a constant f-stop through their whole focal range, so a lens might have f/3.5 at its short end and f/5.6 at its long end as the smallest f-stop.

I have a feeling that the op means that you see lenses with 1.8, or 3.5, but if you look at a list of standard f/stops, you see 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8,11.

1.8 and 3.5 are thirds of stops and aren't normally listed on a scale.

Now, re-reading his post, that might actually be his question!
