hi, i have a question here. are metal mounting rings universally fit? I will get flash lights and softboxes from different venders, but don't know if they can fit each other. or should i look for specific size say..ID=5" and OD=8" and 4 thumb screws? maybe?
    thanks for any answers.

I think you are referring to speed rings.

I'm not 100% sure...but I think that the ring has to be specific to the light and the softbox/accessory....which would make them anything but universal.

The manufacturers use proprietary mounts. They don't want you buying accessories from anybody else. Some things (like umbrellas) are universal but anything that mounts to the front of the flash head will be proprietary.
