    Because their asylum applications were recently rejected, four Kurdish refugees started a hunger strike in the city center.

  2. Is that Che Guevara on the tent? In front of a Hindu meditationer? Did you ask them how it relates to their desire to have asylum? From what country are they? The Kurds have not been granted their own country anywhere, although it looks like Northern Iraq may come under some kind of formal control for them.

    Yes, it's the Che Guevara poster on the tent. The statue had always been there before they set up this temporary hut. I noticed this angle for the purpose of my justaposition. ;)

    They are actually from the Kurdish part of Turkey. (Hope you are keen on international news these days, I don't explain further on the political concept of Kurdistan.) This is one of the reasons why the immigration board here at first rejected their application on the ground that Turkey is deemed as a "democratic and safe" country.
