First one is quite dismal,and has little hope for any improvement no matter what is done to it--it has basically no delineated subject and basically no redeeming artistic values or expression. The second one has some potential, and with a little bit of good post-processing I think the footprints in the sand could be elevated a bit and punched up, the sky massaged a bit for better color, and then the shot would be kind of semi-interesting.

As above really. They are dark and have no main focus. Next time, try increasing your exposure slightly and ensure you have a central focus point for example a line of footprints or an object on the beach.
