I've got a question though about the 100% crop:
img8228ih8.jpg

It doesn't seem to be really sharp, while I've seen VERY sharp images made with the same lens I've made this picture with (Sigma 70-200 f2,8 SM EX Macro).

Any tips on how I could make it sharper at 100% zoom?

EXIF Data:
Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
1/500sec.
f/8
200mm
ISO 800
AV
-0,3 exposure

JPEG bit depth: 24 bit
600dpi (default was 300dpi... what's a good setting when converting from RAW? )

well looking at your exif I'd say it was possibly the high ISO causing noise in the image which makes it look soft at 100%

But to be honest most of my shots at 100% don't look the sharpest shots ever but as I never put anything on my site full size or print bigger than 18x12 inch it doesn't really matter.

All my shots on here, DA or my site are at 72dpi the only time I change is if im printing bigger than A4 or sending to a magazine and then I change the DPI in photoshop after all the editing is done

one thing I try to do with my photos is to look at how sharp the image is on screen at 25% (my screen is 72dpi) if it looks sharp there it will print sharp at A4 size on my printer and thats not resizing to 300dpi just selecting "scale to fit media"
