One thing I will say about P&S's, they're very versatile. The macro feature is awesome and you don't have to spend 100's of bucks on a macro lens.

These were shot with a Sony DSC P-100

Where was yours taken? My shot was taken in San Francisco. Only place I've seen one that big and that shape.

edit - oh, you're from SF! I took my shot right outside of Golden Gate Park.

Great shots. Some point and shoots have fantastic macro settings. My IS 3 could focus on finger touching the lens.

I took them in San Pedro Valley Park in Pacifica. I wasn't even sure if this was a banana slug because the ones I saw were like yours but after looking them up it was pretty close
