I have a Fujifilm E900 (which I really like, so a new camera isn't an option), but unfortunately to my knowledge does not accept an external flash.

What lighting options are best for me and which basic products should I consider (I'm in the UK)?

Ideally I'd like to try out new techniques such as cross-lighting etc.

If you have done any reading on Strobist (great site b.t.w.), you will know that the key is to get the light off of or away from the camera. If your camera does not have a hot shoe (and most likely not a PC socket)...then it is a little harder to trigger a flash. About your only option would be an optical slave trigger...and you might need one that has the ability to ignore a preflash (if your camera uses a preflash).

Of course, you don't have to use flash. You can use continuous lighting, as long as you have a power source.
