OK, so i now have a choice form my dad (both 35mm):
EOS 300
or
EOS 5

Which kicks more ass?

EOS 5...by a long shot.

The EOS 5 is the best film camera from Canon without going into the full pro line. It was considered to be "pro-sumer", but many pros used it. It's a lot more versatile than the Rebel line (which the 300 is in). I had one and loved it before going digital. I recommend the vertical grip, too.
