I recently went on a trip to NZ with some buddies. While at Mount Cook National Park, my friend stopped in the bathroom and left his little P&S camera on the sink. He didn't realize it was missing until we were emptying out our rental minibus to return it to the airport two days later. He was heartbroken -- a photo record of a trip of a lifetime, as well as his brand new camera which was a Christmas present, gone.

So we get back home. About a week later he receives an email from the minibus rental company. Apparently, a young couple found the camera in the bathroom, looked through the pictures, found one of the minibus, contacted the minibus rental company from the info on the side of the bus, sent the camera to them (not without taking a few funny pics of themselves first), and then the rental company sent the camera -- free of charge -- from New Zealand to the US.

^ That is quite a story. Remarkable that someone of that caliber would be the one who finds your camera and gets it back to you.
