Oh my! I just got of the phone with best buy. They supposedly have photog specialists working there! I called to ask the price of a 85mm 1.8 (I saw that they had one online but i couldn't find price)

First call I was on hold for 4 minutes w/o getting anyone. So I hung up

2nd call I talked to someone in the "geek squad" tried to talk to me about cameras and didn't know a single thing!! She then transfered me to the camera dept. I waited on hold for about 4 minutes again to talk to the "camera specialist" I asked about the 85 or 50 prime lens. He put me on hold again for about 5 minutes and stated that they had NO camera that fit that description. WHAT!?! I was calling about a lens!? He then put me on hold AGAIN for another 5 minutes to tell me that they didn't have any 85mm, 50mm or any primes at all!!! I was so mad I talked to the mgr after and he was very rude also!! Then as soon as I got off the phone I tried the website again and found it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want to drive up there and smack some sense into them!!!

Maybe you should try checking B&H or Adorama, they may have cheaper prices and will have it in stock for sure.

Then I walk around the corner and behold, a whole rack of them...

Dont get me started on the Geek Squad...

B&H for sure. I've bought all my lenses and a bunch of other stuff from them - a few thousand worth. They are good on the phone for answering questions. Say thank you very much, hang up, log on to TPF and hit the banner in the top right to order on-line. I got my 85mm f/1.8 for about $320USD. Execellent lens.

They ship UPS and, of course UPS tries to beat the piss out of their packages, but B&H pack so well, never have to worry about damage.

Forget Best Buy and other big boxes for photo gear, IMO.

Yeah well it don't matter if ups beats my lens to a pulp bc they will give you a full refund if its broken or missing. But i found one on Adorama that I'm going to put an order in tomorrow. Its 85mm 1.8 290usd

that leaves me with over a hundred to get the rest of the crap I want to blow my bday money on..

Well, I beg to differ my dear. Peace of mind is worth a pound of gold to me. Any reputable dealer will give a full refund or exchange for damaged goods. But wouldn't it be nice to know that it is packaged so well, that damage is an afterthought? I'd much rather be able to pull it out of the box and use straight away.

Congrats on the lens. You'll have fun with it. I've heard good things about Adorama as well.

Oh yeah. That is nice to know! I mean if you are laying 300 bucks down on the table you better make damn sure you are getting what you orderd the first time and not a broken lens.
