I was on Amtrak's train #5 (California Zephyr) westbound for Sacramento.

Reno to Truckee is uphill and curvy so the train can't go more than about 40 mph.

I'd been watching ahead for a shot with the waning Moon on the skyline.
Plus, I'm pretty sure I panned the shot hand-held.

Yep. The trip it was last Fall. Before this years record snows that caused major schedule disruptions for the over the Sierras leg, and Nevada segment of the California Zephyr route.

I've been on the California Zephyr in Spring and Fall.
So next time I'll do late Winter, hopefully March '18.

Because of other commitments I can't do overnight train travel in the Summer.
