Black and White question

Once i get my D50 which is the preferred method of taking a black and white photo. Is it better to use a black and white setting on the camera or is it better to take the picture in color and then convert it afterwards using some kind of photo editing software or does it really even make a difference?

Convert afterwards. You will have a lot more control. If you do it in camera, you can't make changes.

Definitely convert afterwards, like Mr Bester said, you get much more control.

Nikon D50 does not have an in camera setting to shoot in black and white
