Black Widow

I took this picture of a Northern Black Widow the other day. It was sitting about six inches from me on the door sil while I was painting the trim...*Yikes*. IT's a little blury which just proves that I need to get a macro lens so I can get some closer/cleaner pics.

No need to get any closer, that looks very scary just as it is....

Are these spiders common in your parts?

Yeah, they're very common actually. What's funny is, in the 25 years I lived here, this was the first one I've seen. They usually stay in cool dark places so you rarely see them. Very poisoness though. I could have gotten a better shot if I had set up the tripod, but I was a little freaked, with my baby in his swing 5 feet away.

YUCK!!!!!! They are nasty I'm scared to death of spiders. What lens did you shoot with? If you have a 24-105 the macro in it works great

I killed it, but it would have died anyway. We get the house sprayed every 6 months so it was doomed regardless.

I'm just shooting with a Canon A620. I want to learn all I can with this camera before stepping up to a DSLR. Plus I'm broke with an 8 week old baby at home. I'm looking at getting the adapter tube for my camera with a Macro lens.
