Thanks for the comment. This is my first post. I don't know why the thumbnail is cut in half. Photo taken with Sony A7r and Sigma 50-500mm lens. Is there a limit on the amount of uploads per day? Thanks for the help!
 
I agree with Hunter. This is a nice image, but too heavily cropped. Images such as this one are best composed using the rule of thirds, at least to start with. In this case, I would have placed the bird on the right third of the picture as he faces the left part of the image. This provides an illusion (of sorts) so that the "empty" space on the left is seen to give him room to move into. If you have a look at this site - Bird Photography Tutorial 6: Basic Composition - it will give you some basic ideas on how to arrange your birds in an image. Hope this helps.

Thanks....yes I know about the thirds rule but I guess for this shot I just wanted to get a real closeup since the area around it was rather ugly!
