I like the first one. The second is nice, but I guess the selective focus just doesn't work for me. I would much rather see a focus on the boats rather than the knot.

Absolutely beautiful colours in the water and good composition in the first one.

I agree with Sleepy, I'm not overly keen on the second one.

Ok, thanks for your comments! I guess I need to improve my idea on #2.

Any suggestions on what I could do to improve that sort of shot, anyone?

Crank your f/stop to f/16 or f/22 and get the whole scene in focus.
