Buying a D50, which lens should I get?

I am going to order a D50, and I am wondering which lens I should get? Unfortunately "kit" level lenses are all I can afford right now, but from what I hear they are still nice and more than enough for a beginner. I am getting the base kit:

Nikon D50 Digital SLR Camera Outfit, with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX with the purchase of a Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Zoom Lens $881.83

OR the two lens kit:

Nikon D50 Digital SLR Camera 2 Lens Kit, with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G, & 55-200mm f/4-5.6G, ED AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor Lenses $874.95


Any particular reason I should go one way or the other?

I think Ken Rockwell has perhaps answered my question:

The pair sells for the same price as that one Tamron, and gives much better performance at least in terms of distortion than the do-it-all lens.[/FONT]​

[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]If you have $700 then get the 18 - 200 mm VR instead. If not, get this 18 - 55 and the $150 70 - 300G. You'll save half and never miss the 55 - 70 segment.​
