The photo was taken by Eddie Adams.. it is a photo of the execution of a Viet Cong prisoner.

It was taken in 1968, in Saigon

    hope this helps

To be pedantic it was Eddie Adams working for Associated Press and it was Brigadier General Nguyen Ngoc Loan, police chief of Saigon, executing a Vietcong prisoner during the 1968 Tet offensive - but this is probably way too much info.

I recall seeing a color version of this. That was on 16mm movie film. It was shown only as a still in the US.

Don't know about the film or the colour. Thought it was only BW. But am pretty sure it was not taken from a movie. The quote I have before me made by the photographer indicates he used a still camera. 'As his hand came up so did my camera...' - Pictures on a Page by Harold Evans.

the photo is from a still camera by Eddie Adams but there is footage of this, it was taken by Vo Suu a cameraman for NBC. NBC would end up showing it nation wide so that may be what you are talking about.
