Forum members please help. I just purchased a new canon EF 24-105 F/4L lens and I can't get sharp pictures unless I use a flash. My outdoor pictures are especially soft even at aperatures above F5.6. I used the hood outdoors and took off the lens filter. I have a canon 20D camera and this is the only lens I have had any problems with. My18-55 kit lens does better. This new lens is just too expensive for this kind of problem. I understand DOF issues when shooting close subjects but that is not the problem either. Please advise before I go nuts about this issue.

Welcome to the forum.

Try some controlled tests. Google lens tests and you should be able to figure out some simple ways to test it. It's not unheard of that you may have a bad lens that snuck through the QC at the factory. If so, Canon should have no problems repairing or replacing the lens for you.
