Canon EF 28-70mm 2.8

I have an opportunity to purchase a used but in good condition, Canon EF 28-70mm 2.8L USM for $700.

Good deal or not? I was wanting the next lens to be a 85 prime.

If the ad specifically says 28-70, then I'd pass.

If you only did a typo and meant 24-70, then it might be worthwhile looking into it, all depending on the prior owner. If this is a Craigslist / ebay thing, I'd think twice about jumping on a "good deal".

If its a friend who is willing to part with it, and you trust this person, then I'd think about it

The 24-70 is a good lens, fast, sharp, well built. Should you buy it? Depends on what you plan on shooting with it

yeah, it seems about what I would expect you to have to pay. A quick check of Ebay showed that completed listings on the 28-70 2.8L tend to be right around 800. So, it's probably a good but not fantastic price.
