Canon G7 BETA??

I have a friend that says that the Canon Photoshot G7 that is out in stores now is a beta that they made for review only, And that the "real" one will come out in 2008.

Is this true? and if it is.. What will be the differenceses of the two cameras?

if it's out in stores, it is not a BETA product.
