This man let me take his picture after I gave him two large pills as 'medicine'

This village was very high (~2000 meters) and very far (25 K) off of a 'main' road.

Notice in the last picture, those long bamboo poles with the flexible tops. The Akha people are animists and believe, not only that everything has a spirit - rock, stones, trees, etc - but that ghosts and spirits fly around in the sky.
The flexible end pieces of those poles are dipped in wild honey and then lashed to the top so that the ghosts and spirits can eat as they fly around.
