Personally I would clean up around the eye and fur on his/her nose and leave it sharp.

If you're gonna go for soft focus or a really shallow depth of field look you gotta crank the blur up a bit. I looked at each pic for 45 seconds and couldn't see much of any difference at all. Personally I agree with heip, just leave it sharp. Normal with close up portaits of people or black and white stuff, I would go ahead and blur/burn some areas but I don't feel this needs it.

Why would you want to soften the fur? Skin looks good when it's softened...but fur just looks out of focus. The original is much better IMO.
