I have a really hard time getting good pictures of the darker cat. any tips for dark objects with poor lighting

The second one is a little blury. For poor lighting up the ISO some and lower the f/stop. And then play with the two to see what you like. I try to keep my ISO as low as possible to keep the noise down, but with poor lighting sometimes you have no choice.

If there is no light don't bother shooting because photography is all about light
