    Hey everyone at TPF i need your help! Can someone recomend a Lens for a Nikon D40. I want a decent Zoom out of it because i will be going The south for a bit ( im in canada) and i love to shoot far off landscape.
    So any reccomendations and or personal experience with a lens they think will be suitable for my situation.
    P.s i dont have much to spend max is about $250.

    well with a $250 budget your pretty much just limited to the Nikkor 55-200.. unless you hit up ebay and find a sweet deal...

    There are no telephotos that are a "little better" than the 55-200 VR for a similar price. The next usable step up is the 70-300 VR for about $500 and, from there, you're looking at f/2.8 telephotos costing thousands of dollars. Don't bother getting any of the cheaper 70-300 lenses as they all tend to go soft towards the long end.

    That said, the 55-200 VR is a great lens for the price and has perfectly acceptable sharpness at the long end.

    If you don't mind using a tripod and manually focusing, you could get a used AF lens.
