Cleaning Question

I want to give my lenses and filters a good cleaning before going out tomorrow morning. Can I just use any glass cleaner or are there certain types that work better than others? also I have heard some cleaners have residue that will build up on your lense that may not be good, is this ture?

Can I use straight isopropyl alcohol?
