colors for b&w?

im doing some black and white family portraits and am wondering if there are preferred colors to be wearing for clothes in a b&w shot. should i get they to all have the same shade/color of clothes? id appreciate any thoughts on this.. thanks

My general rule for people is simple: If one person is wearing a lighter color, then everyone should try to wear a lighter color. If one is wearing a darker color, then everyone should try and do the same. This way you won't get half the people wearing white while the other half is wearing black. I think that is a total nightmare. But, it still makes it easy on them because they don't have to color coordinate too much. I also tell people to stay away from really bold prints or stripes.
