Hi, last week I had accepted my first commercial job - Chinese Restaurant Menu. Let me know what do you think about my first time for FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY:lol:

DOF seems too shallow for the purpose. You generally want most, if not all, your food in focus for something like this. Really dislike the broccoli almost falling off the plate in #1.

Styling could have been better. Also it looks like you lit them with a desk lamp?

Lighting is not good, way too tight on the food! You have a center highlight, when the whole plate should be well lit... and your DOF is not adequate. Most of the food is OOF....

Other than what has been said. It REALLY bothers me how you chopped the plate off in some, well most. Also, put space inbetween your pictures & number them! Helps the viewer :)

Thanks guys;) really appreciated your c&c;)
- Too DOF. I understand it might too DOF for someone. The point that I purposely make it that way because the owner like it that way and I feel it will help attract the attention other than the boring whole plate picture. However, I do agreed with most of your opinion;)

- crop too tight. I definitely has the whole plate photo, just crop it that way to make it tight. The reason is the picture will only be 3x3 on the menu, if I put the whole plate picture on it, I afraid the customers has to put the picture in front of their eye to look what's in the plate. It just simply from business point of view;)

Really appreciated your comments ;) but in business, I had to listen and understand what the client need ;(

They are all pretty much universally underexposed, and taken from the same angle. You have to vary it a bit, and get creative. Top down shots work well too.

Also plating shots would give the menu a more personal feel:

To do this, you really need more lighting though.

If the images are going to be 3X3 on the menu, why aren't they square cropped here? I also don't really get asking for C&C, while having these constraints (like the owner likes shallow DoF?) that you didn't even mention.
