Computers and Cameras

I have seen where people hook their camera to a laptop and then take pictures in one place so that they can look at it on the computer instead of the camera.... how is it done??? Thanks ( I am going to be taking pictures of mothers and daughters for an event at church in May.)

I can do it with the software that came with my camera...Canon Remote Capture. Nikon has something similar and I'm sure most manufactures do as well.

i've searched but can't find this Canon Remote Capture, do you know if its something Canon provides for free? as in software you could download off thier site or something? also, how could i find out if it is compatible with my camera?

Nikon's is called Control Pro. It is their newest version. I think it is around $100. Bibble is supposed to be able to do that as well but I have never used it.
