Giving us a $$ amount / budget will help in giving advice. Having $5000 vs $500 makes a big different in what you buy.

Know that lenses are more essential to good photography than a body is. They will last a long time, while a body can be upgraded every 2-3 years.

Do you know people who have gear? If so, you might want to shoot the same they do so you can borrow things.

More important that gear is knowledge. Take a class, read a book (Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson is highly recommended)

Buy a Canon 10D with a Canon 28-300mm L IS USM lens.
Roughly £2500
£400 for body brand new
and
£2,100 for the lens.

(ofcourse this is a sarcastic comment...)

We need a price range and what your looking to shoot and why dont you go do research before saying "wut camera do i bye?"

you might want this: hasselblad h3dii-60 its only £30000

Nikon D3x with 14-24mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8, 200-400mm f/4, 500mm f/4, 600mm f/4, 60mm f/2.8, 105mm f/2.8 and TC-20E II.

for sure.

oh yea, don't forget the 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4

What he said!

The range of products available is so wide now, that you don't have to be a professional to get professional products. Canon seems to be leading the market in SLR technology, but a budget would be helpful to steer you in the right direction...

Pray tell what you base this statement on. Links would be nice.

For the OP,
For many beginners it really doesn't matter what brand you get. Pentax, Oylmpus, Sony Canon or Nikon. Start with the entry level gear.

The fact you don't type capital letters indicates you'll not likely progress beyond the Auto camera modes, let alone take the time to fully explore your cameras users manual.

Haha. That's around $15,000 worth of gear.

Get a Nikon D40. They're about $500

Don't get a camera until you have some idea of what you're getting and how you're going to use it. Period.

Well, if you're going to spend OPM, why not add in the 200mm f/2VR, and the 300mm & 400mm f/2.8's ......

To the OP...to avoid such satire, yes, a budget would be helpful.

i figured that range would be covered by the 200-400mm but you're right. the extra couple stops on the prime would be needed :thumbup:
