copying and displaying artwork

I want to display both pen & ink on paper and pencil on paper drawings. My problem is that the drawings are in notebooks and I don't want to tear the notebooks apart. I've tried both scanning & printing and photographing (using a 35mm camera on a copystand) and printing. Both methods gave mediocre results. Does anyone have experience/ideas for how to do this?
