Couple HDR shots

So I am trying to figure out this whole HDR thing, I think these two look pretty decent, both were taken last night

Cool, I like those. I've been experimenting with the techinique as well. I think the key is to pick the right shot. Night shots and landscapes with lots of green and sky, as well as architectural shots seem to do well. Also, I think you have to tone it down a bit to make it not so obvious that it is an HDR shot, which you've done well here.

Are these true HDRs made from several exposures, or are they false HDRs? Also, where did you learn the particular technique that you used?

each is made from 3 shots, both are -2, 0, +2 in exposure, I just played with them in photmatix until I saw what I liked.

I wasn't looking for over dramatic tones just enough to get some nice colors.
