Cracks in AF-S ED 18-200 Lens

I just noticed these small cracks. I have never dropped this lens so not sure if I did the damage or it is a flaw in the aging plastic.
I am wondering if this failure is a known thing. I suspect it is not worth fixing unless it develops into a functional problem.
