Certainly, but, make no mistake: If my camera body supported a minimum shutter speed setting, I'd use it for this kind of thing in a heartbeat.

It's great when you need to switch in a hurry. For example, if I'm shooting a perched bird and see about bird flying, with one quick turn off the dial in in BIF mode and know I don't have to waste time with adjusting. So when you figure out what's best for you start configuring your custom settings of you haven't already. They are huge time savers.
