CULLING

What I stopped doing was taking unnecessary photos. I am NOT saying you are, I'm just saying what I started doing.

I use to get caught up in "the more the better", and I'd come home from a wedding with 2k+ photos. Now, I'm lucky to come home with 300-400.

Plan your shots out before you take them and shoot smart.

This will eliminate half your photos off the get go.

And as everyone else mentioned, Lightroom is fantastic already. I go through real quick and flag the bad ones and 1 star the ones I think are the best. After you flag one hit the command and delete key and it will delete all the flagged photos (Mac).

If I'm shooting jpeg, after I copy all into the pc, I'll do the first cull with windows Photo Gallery so I can use the arrow keys and the delete key. Then Bridge to rename and copy the keepers to another folder. Those then get fixed with Photoshop and stored for use. Not looking for speed since I don't do big things like wedding. My biggest bunches are usually no more than 3 or 400 hundred shots for a birthday party or visit to the Homosassa Wildlife Park.

My GF swears by PhotoMechanic
I prefer Lightroom.
Neither are free. Why should they be?
Take less photos if you feel culling takes too long.
