D3100 with SB50

I have had my d3100 for about a year now and really want a new flash, I cant really afford to spend much right now as i have just invested in a new lens and wondered if the SB50 would work okay????

Thank you, as I said I am having a lot of trouble as there seems to be hundreds on the market and I have already bought adapters and filters that did not work so do not really want to waste any more cash

The SB-50 is an older unit and is not Nikon CLS compatible. See pages 173 - 175 of your D3100 user's manual.

See what I mean I would buy so much with out any help that i would have to re sell at a loss already bought a few batteries and my camera says no lol Its not Nikon it wont use them
