ok ive been looking around for a FishEye lens to buy for my D40..

ive looked at a couple websites and i have my eye set on this one.. but no websites say what camera its for..

    http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/lens/af/fisheye/af_fisheye16mmf_28d/index.htm

and i also saw the cheapest fisheye was 69 bucks and was made by a brand called opteka.. are they any good at all?

all i have to spend on a fisheye is 600 bucks..

I would look at this one http://www.kenrockwell.com/tokina/10-17mm.htm

It's a Tokina 10-17mm. The only thing is, you would have to manually focus. On the D40 for a fisheye, you're kinda limited to Nikons 10.5 fisheye so it will focus. The D40 does not have an internal zoom on it.
